Spring Cleaning Tips & Tricks

With warmer weather on the way, it’s time to start spring cleaning. After a winter season full of hosting, holidays, and general chaos, coming out of your winter hibernation can be a daunting task. These tips can help you break down your spring cleaning into more manageable pieces, taking the stress out of your tidying.

Plan Your Attack

It can be easy to overwhelm yourself if you start into your spring cleaning without a plan. Before you begin battle, take a week or so to start to list out those “once-a-year” tasks that need to be tackled. Of course as you clean you may identify a few stragglers, however, understanding the scope of your cleaning tasks can make them less intimidating.

Importance of Proper Care

Cleaning window treatments may seem complicated but is really quite simple when done correctly. However, incorrect cleaning can cause permanent damage to the material. Timely and regular upkeep can help your window treatments last (and look good!) as long as possible.

Cleaning Natural Shades

Among some of the easiest treatments to care for, natural shades are a popular choice in many homes because of their versatility and chic style. The rich texture of natural shades make them eye-catching, but can also make them a magnet for dust. To get rid of any unwanted debris, simply use a vacuum with an upholstery or soft brush attachment. If needed, a clean, dry cloth can be used to spot clean.

Roller and solar shades are fairly maintenance free. However, if you ever find yourself with a need to clean them, make sure you do so without risking damage. Similarly to natural shades, dust can be removed with a vacuum equipped with a brush attachment. If needed, a damp cloth can be used to spot clean, however the shade should not be submersed in water. Allow to dry completely before retracting the shade.

Remove dust periodically with a vacuum and upholstery brush. Water can damage your soft treatments. If deeper cleaning is needed, have your shades and drapes cleaned by a professional.
