Making Waves: The East Coast Couple Bringing Horizons to Southern Maine

Meet Justice Young-Pessa, a Horizons dealer since 2016 and the co-owner and operator of Coastal Blinds & Shades located in Scarborough, Maine. Justice and her husband, Ryan, hadn’t exactly intended in working in the window treatment industry. However, after seeing a need for custom window treatments in their area, Justice and Ryan saw an opportunity to open their own business to serve their community.

For over 30 years, Justice’s in-laws ran their own window treatment business and were more than happy to offer support and advice. It was Ryan’s mother who suggested the couple should work with Horizons. No other window treatment company on my area does soft treatments, especially custom drapes, she told us in a phone interview. Justice knew she could count on the quality and competency of Horizons to provide exactly what she and her clients were looking for.

While the Customer’s Own Material (C.O.M.) program is already well known by many Horizons enthusiasts, for many dealers like Justice, it can be a game changer. She explains that “clients often pick a fabric before they design the shade, and nothing will ever live up to that expectation.”

Starting with specific colors and patterns can pose a challenge for interior designers, especially if companies have a set catalog of materials to choose from. The flexibility provided by Horizons and their ability to tailor window treatments to exact specifications is a huge perk for interior designers.

If you’re looking to make a bold statement in your space, Justice recommends working with draperies.

Not only can you add a bold color or pattern with ease, but draperies can also be installed over existing shades for added dimension and light control. Justice suggests playing around with contrasting colors, materials, textures or patterns to really help your design pop.
