Get inspired by popular trends and design to impress!
Keeping up with changing trends can feel stressful. To help put you at ease, we’ve compiled the top three emerging trends of 2024 to help you design with trends in mind. You absolutely don’t have to follow current trends, however, showing you are familiar with their traits can help expand your capabilities and opportunities as a designer
Feel Good Spaces
This style prioritizes joy and comfort within the home. Think plush textures, calming neutral colors and soft rounded shapes. With the goal of creating a sanctuary at home, Feel Good Spaces focus on all of the creature comforts that make the home feel personal, lived in and the go-to place to relax at the end of the day. Layering translucent drapery over existing window treatments can be used to gently filter light, creating a dreamy atmosphere. Natural textures like wood and bamboo also play well in this type of space, bringing in elements often seen in upscale day-spas.
New Retro
Take a page from your grandmother’s book when you design in this style. Perfect in homes that heavily feature vintage or retro décor pieces, this trend breathes new life into playful designs from previous decades. Add a modern twist with an updated color palette. Draw on classic colors from the past (the orange, green and pink of the sixties come to mind) but choose a more muted tone (think burnt orange, avocado, dusty rose) for a more modern look. Don’t be afraid to embrace textures and patterns from the past by updating them with a modern color or style. Retro shades of taupe and green can still find their way into current design, just not in the form of shag carpeting.
Luxe Minimalism
Minimalism has its advantages within the home; however, the lack of embellishment can often make the space feel dull or sterile. Choosing pieces that feel upscale while keeping surfaces clear from excess clutter can help the space feel welcoming. Looking for furniture with metallic elements, lush fabrics, or rich hardwood to elevate the atmosphere of the room. Choosing a color palette with one jewel tone such as a rich blue or purple can also help create interest without overwhelming the senses. Motorized window treatments are a great choice in minimalist spaces because of their clean design which doesn’t require cords for operation.
